Alaska Afterschool Network

The Alaska Afterschool Network (AAN) is the only statewide organization dedicated to increasing afterschool and expanded learning opportunities for school-age children, youth and families in Alaska. The mission of AAN is to support, strengthen and advocate for quality afterschool programs and activities that result in increased academic achievement, well-being and high school graduation.


Over the past year, the Alaska Afterschool Network (AAN):

  • Kicked off the 2015 Lights On Afterschool October events with a state event featuring Senator Murkowski.

  • Established a diverse steering committee comprised of rural and urban partners.

  • Developed three year strategic plan.

  • Hosted its first statewide Lights On Afterschool celebration engaging Senator Murkowski, Congressman Young and representatives from Senator Begich's office.

  • Developed monthly e-newsletter received by over 200 afterschool workers and supporters.

  • Developed bi-month statewide conference calls to promote network engagement and collaboration.

  • Provided traning to over 350 youth workers.

  • Hosted first ever Effective Tribal Youth Program Conference.

Current Projects and Initiatives: 
The Alaska Afterschool Network is committed to growing afterschool in Alaska by building a statewide system to support, strengthen, and advocate for afterschool programs and activities for children, youth, and families. Our current efforts include:
  • Implementing three year strategic plan.

  • Hosting bi-monthly webinars.

  • Developing advocacy plan for the Alaska Afterschool Network.

  • Engaging policymakers.

  • Supporting Anchorage-based Collective Impact efforts on eighth grade math proficiency.
