The Alaska Afterschool Network (AAN) is dedicated to expanding access to productive out-of-school science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) learning programs by improving existing programs and creating new ones. The network's desire is that every child in Alaska has access to high-quality STEM opportunities in their community during out-of-school time. Alaska Afterschool Network has secured funding to develop a network-wide STEM focus.

The Alaska Afterschool Network also works to expand summer learning opportunities. Research shows that summers without quality learning opportunities put Alaskan youth at-risk for falling behind in core subjects like math and reading. To create great awareness of the importance of summer learning, the Alaska Afterschool Network launched the #AKSummerLearning social media campaign on Facebook and Twitter. #AKSummerLearning encourages Alaska families to keep their children active and learning during summer vacation to prevent summer learning loss.

In partnership with Rural Alaska Community Action Program, AAN launched the Helping Youth Succeed Webinar Series, which engaged over 130 out-of-school time professionals from 26 different communities.
