Accomplishments:
- N CLC N participated in a broad-based coalition to secure both a Noyce Foundation systems grant to support the development of systems connecting out-of-school time (OST) programs and STEM initiatives and a NASA Summer of Innovation grant to enhance STEM content in Nebraska’s 21st Century Community Learning Center programs.
- N CLC N partnered with the Early Childhood Training Center to develop and distribute the Core Competencies for School-Age Youth Development Professionals.
- N CLC N extended previous work developing statewide fund maps for OST programs and completed an OST fund map for the Omaha Metro area.
Current Projects and Initiatives:
- N CLC N is working with targeted, high-need Nebraska communities to support emerging and established citywide afterschool and CLC systems that support high-need youth, their families and communities.
- N CLC N will facilitate a two-year process to develop a statewide system connecting STEM and OST program providers and expertise to integrate high-quality STEM content into existing and new afterschool programs.
- N CLC N continues to expand partnerships with universities, colleges, state agencies, advocacy groups and foundations to promote new opportunities to support full service CLC programs in high-need communities.
- N CLC N continues to collaborate with partners to convene periodic outreach events to cultivate state and local champions for OST and CLC programs, including the statewide Mayoral Summit on afterschool and a summit on STEM and OST, both in 2012.
- N CLC N will facilitate an interagency working group to develop strategies and implement cross-agency activities that support community-based afterschool and CLC programs.
- N CLC N is collaborating with community stakeholders to develop sustainability plans for CLC programs and work with policymaking agencies on reforms to childcare regulations addressing the specific needs of school-aged care providers.
- N CLC N is collaborating with state and regional partners to promote and support integrated professional development opportunities that supplement and enhance regional meetings and learning opportunities.
- N CLC N will launch the Nebraska Afterschool Professionals Association, Nebraska’s National AfterSchool Association affiliate.
