Michigan After-School Partnership

The Michigan After-School Partnership (MASP) is a statewide network developing a shared vision and influencing others to believe in the power of after-school programs to help all children and youth succeed. MASP links stakeholders interested in improving outcomes for children and youth through school-based/school-linked and enrichment after-school programs.

  • MASP invited to testify before a special committee hearing of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Human Services on the benefits of after-school and extended learning.

  • MASP recruited a cohort of local afterschool ambassadors to lead grassroots advocacy action in communities.

  • MASP, in partnership with the Mozilla and MacArthur Foundations, piloted a digital open badges program across two student programs and one professional development program.

  • MASP participated in several workgroups to expand Quality Ratings Information System (QRIS) in to school age.

  • MASP was critical in the retooling of Michigan School-Age Youth Development Credential to develop an online process for applicants.

Current Projects and Initiatives:
  • MASP is working to cultivate key legislative leadership to drive a four year policy plan to develop a sustainable state funding stream for after-school across the state.

  • Collaboration continues with the Michigan Afterschool Association to provide workshop and training offerings at state-wide, regional and local events to coordinate with licensing requirements and correlate to the adopted state school-age standards and core competencies, with particular attention to STEM education.
  • Work is continuing to expand the digital open badges pilot and create a STEM Endorsement to the Michigan School-Age Youth Development Credential.
  • MASP Nutrition Outreach VISTA is working to eliminate barriers to accessing food programs.
  • MASP has been working closely with the Office of Education Improvement and Innovation, part of the Department of Education, to develop competency based career tech education through STEM pipelines and after-school/expanded learning.
