Ohio Afterschool Network

The Ohio Afterschool Network (OAN) supports children, youth, families and communities by advocating with a unified voice for sustainable investments in safe, healthy and nurturing afterschool experiences that promote life-long learning.

  • Hosted Lights on Afterschool event at the Ohio Statehouse, the first statewide Lights On event in Ohio.

  • Co-sponsored Statewide Advocacy Day which resulted in more than 300 people speaking with State Senators and Representatives in support of Ohio’s youth.

  • Recommended changes to Ohio’s child care licensing rules to reflect needs of school age children. Many of these recommendations will be adopted.


  • Contracted with Ohio Department of Education to host the 2nd annual Statewide Afterschool Summit, which, in addition to providing a much needed opportunity for professional development and networking, also provides a source of revenue for OAN.

  • Advocating for $5 million in State funding for afterschool programs; contracted with Voices for Ohio’s Children to lead this work.


  • Digital badges pilot with Case Western reserve.

  • In partnership with the Ohio Department of Education, hosted the 2nd annual Afterschool Summit.

  • Survey results: 82% of surveyed afterschool providers rate OAN’s meetings and trainings as very valuable.

Current Projects and Initiatives: 
  • Draft legislation for $5M state budget line item dedicated to afterschool programs.

  • Planning for 3rd annual Afterschool Summit in partnership with the Ohio department of Education.

  • Youth Professional Digital Badge pilot in partnership with Case Western Reserve.
