Sustainability Training:
Training for Statewide Afterschool Networks

In September 2005, the Afterschool Technical Assistance Collaborative developed a one-day training session for network leadership on sustainability planning. The session provided participants with a structured process and tools to take back to their states to use as they engage in sustainability planning efforts for their networks.
The session included:

  • An introduction to a sustainability framework and a step-by-step planning process
  • Guidance in how to get started in the planning process – who to have at the table, how to structure the process, and how to manage the work
  • Orientation to tools and worksheets to help guide the sustainability planning process
  • Tips on how to facilitate each component of the planning process
  • Time for discussion among states and within state teams on how best to apply the planning tools and think through any preparatory work that might be necessary.
  • Guidance in how to adapt and tailor the tools and methods based on each state’s unique needs.
