Texas Partnership for Out of School Time

The mission of the Texas Partnership for Out of School Time (TXPOST) is to increase the quality and availability of out-of-school time (OST) programs in the state of Texas. TXPOST engages all Texas youth-serving organizations, state agencies and other stakeholders in discussions and collaboration to insure human and financial resources are maximized and fully leveraged to improve outcomes for the children and youth of Texas.

Accomplishments:
  • Up until the fall of 2011, Texas was one of only 11 states without a statewide afterschool network designed to enhance OST opportunities for all children in the state. In 2010, a group of professionals from the non-profit, governmental, public education and university sectors created TXPOST.
  • The establishment of TXPOST marks a national network milestone of creating 40 statewide afterschool networks throughout the U.S.
  • In December 2011, the new TXPOST network lead was hired.
Current Projects and Initiatives:
  • TXPOST is creating a sustainable structure of statewide, regional and local partnerships, particularly school-community partnerships, focused on supporting policy development at all levels.
  • TXPOST is supporting the development and growth of statewide policies that will secure the resources needed to sustain new and existing school-based/school-linked afterschool programs.
  • TXPOST is supporting statewide systems to ensure programs are of high-quality.
  • In 2010, the TXPOST board of directors was established with representatives from public and private organizations across the state. The board created the following committees:
  1. Policy and Advocacy.
  2. Partnerships.
  3. Professional Development and Quality.
  4. Fundraising.
  5. Communications.
  • TXPOST is working to establish regional networks, initially in the major population areas of Texas. These networks will be critical for involving professionals and organizations throughout the state.
